Identity Credit Card and Bank Theft

Is someone using your name? Identity theft is a growing industry; in fact, it is the fastest growing crime. Thieves can steal your personal information such as social security numbers, driver's license numbers, credit card numbers, checking account numbers, etc. They then use this information to get credit cards, loans, and mortgages. And, you may be helping them!

Do you just throw away your credit card and bank statements? Do you freely give out your social security number and your driver's license number, just because someone asked, even over the telephone? Are you getting unsolicited credit card offers in the mail?

Don't merely throw away documents (bank statements, bills, etc.) that have vital information, destroy the documents. Buy a shredder - they're inexpensive and available everywhere. Never give out your social security number and driver's license number, unless it is really necessary and you know to whom and why it is being given. Contact the credit reporting agencies and tell them that you don’t want your information given out unless you initiated the request.  Protect yourself, and your name!
