Our goal is to assist individuals and families through their financial

professional counseling. A New Horizon is dedicated to empowering consumers

Financial Literacy for High School Students
A course designed to teach students to focus on the long term benefits of
saving instead of the short term thrill of spending in real terms that students
can relate to. This course also teaches the basics of investing, how to
guarantee your investments and such pertinent issues such as whether to buy,
lease or finance a car. Taught at the Honors Level as well as at centers for
at-risk youth, the curriculum received the review and approval of the Broward
County Public Schools Superintendent’s Screening Committee and also
emphasizes the real benefits of staying in school and avoiding crime and
substance abuse.
Financial Literacy for Adults
A course designed to teach single parents and all adults how to save for their
families, focus on the long term benefits of saving, recognize the need to save
and invest and how to do so safely and effectively. Also included are sections
on the purpose and good uses of credit, how to save on major expenses and the
need for an emergency fund. The course is designed to be highly informative and

Your Guide to Homeownership
Homeownership is financially responsible and sets you on a proper financial
course. Still, homeownership can be a task, even for the experienced buyer.
This seminar will teach prospective buyers the basics of buying a home from the
importance of inspections and comparable checks to how to understand a mortgage
estimate. More detailed Homebuyer Certification Classes are available for
interested groups.
Foreclosure Prevention Classes
Foreclosures have recently become a growing problem throughout the nation. A
New Horizon has undertaken several initiatives to combat this trend and prevent
many foreclosures from taking place. One of these is our Saving Homes seminar
which provides step by step details on what to do if facing foreclosure as well
as a listing of resources available for assistance.
Checking Accounts
This seminar covers the basics of checking accounts from bank fees and the need
to shop around to new interest bearing checking. Aside from learning the
importance of balancing a checkbook and how to avoid overdraft, the seminar
also emphasizes the need to safeguard personal information, such as one’s
PIN, and to shop around for the best rates and to avoid fees.
Military
Transitioning from military to civilian life can be daunting and emotionally
challenging. Veterans, all of whom have served heroically, deserve guidance and
assistance during this transition. This seminar provides an overview of
what’s needed to make this transition to civilian life, including how job
skills learned in the military translate into civilian life and a
reintroduction to standard household budgeting. Veterans are encouraged to take
advantage of A New Horizon’s additional one on one counseling that
provides advice in an attempt to solve personal financial issues.
Alerts of Predatory Activity Against Senior Citizens
Our senior citizens are the likely victims of predatory schemes. A New Horizon
has decided to do something about it with outreach seminars at senior
communities. Seminars include needed information to protect one’s
identity and credit, as well as how to tell legitimate businesses from unsavory
schemes.
Responsible Gaming
Gambling can be a passive form of entertainment or a reckless obsession. A New
Horizon provides seminars aimed at changing behaviors and presenting the risks
of reckless behavior against the benefits of stability in real and practical
terms. This seminar is highly motivational and is followed up with
individualized counseling.
Business Debt
Many businesses suffer losses or even bankruptcy due to inability to collect on
past due receivables. This seminar teaches business owners effective and
innovative ways of addressing this issue while maintaining customer relations,
even turning a late paying customer into a valued one.
Graduating College
Entering the “real world” can be extremely challenging for
graduating students who often lack knowledge of budgeting or how to manage
finances. Many students find themselves needing to pay rent, purchase food and
have money left over for transportation for the first time ever, right at the
same time as student loans start coming due. This course prepares graduating
students for all of these scenarios, providing them a step by step guide of
what to expect and what to do about it. With more and more students incurring
credit card debt because of lack of financial know how and more and more young
adults moving back in with their parents, A New Horizon has developed this
